Eminem Sees Dr. Rihanna In 'Monster': Get A Sneak

Since 1999, the Eminem Show has been one of the most watched in hip-hop. And as much as rap fans have been tuning in to the Rap God's lyrical masterpiece theater over the years, judging by the official teaser released Friday (December 13) for the highly anticipated video for"Monster," Em, too, has been watching.

The minute-long clip begins with the The Marshall Mathers LP 2 MC sitting in a dimly lit room as two pendulums swing ominously. A woman, later revealed as Rihanna, enters the room and cues up the television for the seemingly comatose rapper. After the word "Violence" appears on the monitor, images of a young and brash Eminem flash across the screen, 

as do images of Detroit's iconic 8 Mile and what appears to be Eminem holding his young daughter Hailie, after the word "Family" is shown.

While Rihanna, clad in all black, examines her collaborator with a psychiatrist's concern from a chair across the room, the word "Addiction" is shown next on the TV, with shots of Eminem downing copious amounts of illegal prescription pills. Still groggy,

 Em looks on in a stupor, while the pendulums still swing, slowly now, and the Bajan beauty quietly takes notes.

Suddenly, the cinematic visuals pan out to two heavily armed men flanking what looks like a cage.

 An unidentified beast snarls from inside as the gunmen look on with rifles locked and loaded. During the intense buildup, none of the hit song's lyrics or music is played. Only a sequence of credits is used in the waning seconds of the clip to whet the appetites of fans until the video officially debuts: "Eminem," "Rihanna," "The Monster" and, of course, the usual cliffhanger, "Coming Soon."

Facts About Betty Kresin, Eminem's grandmother

Betty Kresin, Eminem's grandmother from the maternal side , got married at the age of 14. She got six children from 3 different marriages.
She first married Bob Nelson. She gave birth to her daughter Debbie in 1955.She accuses her first husband, Bob Nelson, of being verbally abusive. Both moved to Warren, Michigan, to be closer to Betty's stepmother .Despite the problems the couple experienced, she gave Bob two more sons, Todd and Steven.They divorced in the early 60's and Betty came back to her hometown St Joseph, where she met Ron Gilpin, her second husband.She had two more children with him. One of them is Betti Schmitt (Eminem's aunt and Debbie's half sister), who is still in touch and in good terms with Eminem. Ron Gilpin was an alcoholic who used to beat up his whole family. Violence was part of their daily life. Ron left his family in 1968.Dramas surrounded Betty's family. In 1991, Todd Nelson killed his brother-in-law, Mike Harris in self defense case. He was sentenced to jail for 8 years.Betty 's sixth child from a third marriage, Ronnie Polkingharn, was Eminem's uncle and closest friend. He committed suicide in 1991.

Eminem grew up for a while at his grandmom's home. She talks about his harsh conditions of living in Detroit :

« It was a poor school and they wanted his shoes. He was one of the only white children going to this segregated school. And one time they took the shoes off his feet and he had to come home in a snowstorm with no shoes on. But the story people keep asking me - "he was unconscious and almost died and all these doctors...", now I know nothing about this and I'm his grandmother. »

People should think twice before calling Marshall a racist.

Betty was angry with Marshall because he never attended to Ronnie's funeral. In fact, Marshall went depressive and swallowed a bottle of Tylenol and survived to another suicide attempt. He was unable to go to Ronnie's funeral, his pain was too immense.But Betty didn't know what happened during this period.

"I was kind of bitter about him writing about my dead son, because the last five years of my deceased boy, Marshall had not even seen him. Marshall - Eminem - and my son Ronnie were very close. He idolised Ronnie and Ronnie loved him. He never even came to Ronnie's funeral and he has never put the first flower on Ronnie's grave. He doesn't do anything - he won't go near the grave. The chain that Marshall wears around his neck, the dog-tag - that was Ronnie's. I gave him the dog-tag, he makes duplicates, he sells them now, and that really broke my heart because this is something sacred to me that I gave the boy. If my son could speak to you today from the grave he would say, "Marshall stop some of the garbage, make up with your family, life's too short"."

Marshall had a good relationship to his granny until he wanted to use Ronnie's voice on a tape. He intended to do this as a tribute to his deceased uncle, but Betty thought he was disrespectful towards her son. In 2002 , both reconciled.

Betty Kresin is currently writing a book on her grandson which shall be entitled « The Tie That Binds ».

Betty says she's proud of her grandson and that she stands on his side.

Information About Recovery - Eminem's Seventh Studio Album

If hip hop or rap music is something you like, then you are probably aware of Eminem's next album called Recovery. Formerly known as Relapse 2, this album is supposed to make its release on June 22, 2010 in the United States and on June 21, 2010 in the United Kingdom.

Recovery will be Eminem's 7th studio album and is considered to be one of the most anticipated albums in 2010. Eminem has worked hard on this album with 17 songs (16 + 1 hidden one), and features no interludes or skits, making it feel like you are definitely getting your money's worth.

If you are worried about this album because of how Encore and Relapse did, then you should make note that this record is completely different from those. Those albums did not do too well and Relapse did not go well with all of the accents. In this album, you do not experience any of the corny accents and Eminem uses his real voice to sing in them.

Most of the songs in Recovery have a more serious note to them. Many of them deal with his life, talking about his drug addiction and his best friend dying. Songs like Talkin' 2 Myself, Not Afraid, Going Through Changes, and You're Never Over touch Eminem's personal side and explains what all he has been going through. How Has Eminem Risen to the Top?

How is it that a little white boy from Kansas City has become
the most well known rapper in the world? Starting from nothing
and eventually moving up to a multi-millionaire, Eminem over the
past seven years has been in the eye of the public everywhere
you look. He has essentially entered a black man's business and
gone to the top over the course of a few years, but how?

On October 17, 1972 Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born in St.
Joseph, MO by his 15 year old mother Debbie. Six months later
his father was gone and this began the struggle for Marshall and
his mother; one that was just the beginning. Throughout the
course of his childhood Marshall and his mother moved numerous
times into different houses from Kansas City to Detroit. The
maximum time spent in one house was only 3 months, which caused
Marshall to attend many different schools making it difficult to
cope to the different surroundings and make friends. Every new
school he attended he was bullied as he was the new kid. This
was something that he could not change as he was never stationed
in one school for a long period of time. At the age of 12 he and
his mother finally settled in a house in Detroit. He would
later use the bullying to his advantage fueling him to get back
at all his bullies through songs.

By the age of 4 Marshall was already beginning to rap and put
words together rhyming them. At school he was rather successful
considering the circumstances, but it was lunchtime that he
enjoyed as he often battled schoolmates through freestyles. At
the age of 14 Marshall began to get serious about rapping and
felt that he had a shot in the business. When he got to the
ninth grade he failed it three times before eventually dropping
out as he felt school was not for him.

When he turned 17 he came up with the name M&M for himself by
combining the first letters of his first and last name, which
later was changed to Eminem. Now that he didn't have school as
a distraction, he focused solely on rapping with the goal of
making it to the top. He faced constant struggle on the way to
stardom as he was continuously rejected by most rappers because
of his race, despite his true talent. This grew anger inside of
him that he uses in his music today. Knowing that it wasn't
going to be easy and that he would have to work, Marshall forced
himself onto radio shows and freestyle battles to prove
everybody wrong. He eventually got a first album titled
"Infinite", but it only sold 1,000 copies. It wasn't until 1997
that Marshall would make a name for himself.

In 1997 he was married with a child trying to support his family
with very little cash to do it with. He went to the Rap
Olympics in Los Angeles hoping to win the cash prize of $1,500
for first place, but instead was spotted by a few sponsors from
Interscope. Furious that he had come in second, he later found
out about the sponsors and he gave them a copy of the "Infinite"
tape, which was later sent to Dr. Dre. Dre was extremely
impressed with the talent of Eminem and got contact of him,
where the two recorded his second album; The Slim Shady LP.
This album set the tone for his style of rap, as he lashed out
on everyone that had bullied him throughout his life. It was a
different style than anyone had ever heard, which brought him to
stardom.

Eminem is by far the most popular rapper that is seen most in
public. He has been seen in Rap Pages, VIBE, Rolling Stone,
Spin, The Source, URB and Stress and continues to strive for
more. He became the first white person to ever be on the cover
of The Source. Throughout his life he has starred in the movie
"8 Mile" based on his life growing up, has had over 20 guest
appearances on TV, has featured on numerous different rappers
CD's, and has recorded 5 CD's of his own. His second LP, "The
Marshall Mathers LP", sold over 8 million records in the United
States alone, 1.76 million copies in the first week setting a
record for a solo artist. This album became the first rap album
ever to be nominated for "Album of the Year" at the Grammies. He
would go on to win 3 Grammies for the album that night. In the
year 2002 he made $29 million in earnings of his fourth album
"The Eminem Show LP" and touring for it. Then on March 23, 2003
the song "Lose Yourself" from his movie "8 Mile" became the
first rap song to ever win an Academy Award.

While being known for his explicit behavior and horrendous
lyrics on his albums and in the eye of the public, it is
difficult to overlook all that he has achieved. Coming from
where he did and rising to where he is currently, it is
remarkable what he has done not only for himself, but the rap
world as well. While it is hard for most to like him, there are
not many that do not at least respect him for what he has
achieved as of now, and what he may do in the future to come.

Many people enjoy the art of freestyling, but most haven't heard much of it. A rap freestyle can either be something you're making up completely off the top of your head OR it can be an excellent pre-rehearsed verse to show people your true skills.

For instance, instead of only rhyming 'flavor' with 'pager', which is relatively basic at face value, he rhymes 'excessive flavor' with 'Progressive pager.' This rhyme scheme (as they are referred to in rap circles) is incredibly impressive due to the amount of syllables in the line, as well as how similar sounding the words are. Instead of saying something simple, he takes a 5-syllable phrase and rhymes it with yet another 5-syllable phrase, displaying an unrivaled skill.

"My music is soothing, but it's also been proven
That it can put you in the mood to jump out of your car while it's moving
You've been waiting on this moment
My sermon is like an omen, I'm servin', I'm Eric Sermon
I saw the window was open and I jumped through it"

This is more recent than the previous 2 and was released on a Kay Slay mixtape over the "Love Me" beat by Obie Trice. The way he flows these lyrics are a notch above anybody else in the game. It's one thing to simply write clever lyrics, but it's a completely different talent to actually rap them. And the specific reason Eminem will go down as one of the best ever is due to his amazing ability to juggle both of these talents at once. Not only do these rhymes contain clever, yet subtle hip hop references, but they're flowed in a way that very few can mimic.

50 Cent - A Brief Biography

50 Cent (aka Curtis James Jackson) has been an explosive figure in the hip hop industry since his major label debut in 2003. Despite a hard childhood and youth, he has managed to pull himself out of the streets with unique rhymes and an ear for finding other rap talents.

50 Cent became rap's golden boy when he was signed for a reported one million with Eminem's Shady/Aftermath label. Emininem and rap superstar Dr. Dre built upon 50's already present talent to create the monster single "In Da Club." This 50 Cent song was featured on his first major label album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" which was released in 2003. The 50 Cent video for the song included appearances by both Eminem and Dr. Dre, which catapulted his success.

After the success of the album, Interscope records granted 50 cent with his own record label G-Unit Records. He immediately signed Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, childhood friends, for the label. He joined these artists in a group called G-Unit, which released "Beg for Mercy" in 2003. Later additions the label included Young Buck, Olivia, Mob Deep and Young Hot Rod. 2008 saw a second album from the G-Unit group called "T.O.S: Terminate on Sight".

At the same time, he began work on his second studio release entitled "The Massacre." The album sold 1.14 million copies in the first four days. The 50 Cent videos for "Candy Shop," "Disco Inferno" and "How We Do" helped place those three songs within the top five Billboard singles in the same week.

50 Cent's success is driven by his desire to overcome his rough childhood and the shooting in May 2000 that put his rap career on hold. He was born in the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York to a teenage mother. He was raised by his grandparents after his mother's murder when he was 8. By 12, 50 Cent was selling crack on the streets and taking guns to school. After several arrests during his late teens, he started to become interested in music.

During the late 1990s, he appeared on several records by other artists and was signed to Columbia records in 1999. He recorded thirty-six songs in two weeks and was prepared to release "Power of the Dollar" when he was shot. 50 Cent was attacked outside of his grandparent's home and was shot nine times. His shooter was never officially charged but was killed in the streets three weeks later. In 50 Cent pictures before and after the shooting, one can see the slight damage to his left cheek from the shooting.

Columbia records dropped the artist immediately, considering him too risky. However, this didn't stop his desire to become a rap star. While 50 Cent was recovering, he recorded thirty songs for rap mix tapes, which helped him build his reputation. It was on one of these mix tapes where Eminem first heard his music.

In addition to his wide discography, 50 Cent teamed with Reebok in 2003 to distribute G-Unit Sneakers. He also has a G-Unit Clothing company. He made his way into the video game world with the 2005 release of 50 Cent: BulletProof. A follow up to the game, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, was released in early 2009. He has also appeared in the films "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", "Home of the Brave" and "Righteous Kill".

50 cent's third album Curtis was released in September of 2007 and sold 691,000 copies in the first week. His fourth album, Before I Self Destruct is anticipated for a spring 2009 release.

50 Cent - How He Became Famous

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was born on July 6th 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens. He doesn't know his father and his mother Sabrina was only fifteen when she gave birth to him.

His mother was a crack dealer and was murdered in 1988 at the age of 25 so Curtis went to live with his grandparents.

At the age of twelve he started dealing drugs during the 1980s crack epidemic. He says he never smoked it just sold it.

On June 29, 1994 he was arrested for helping to sell four vials of cocaine to an undercover cop. He was arrested again three weeks later after police searched his place and found drugs. He was sentenced to nine years in prison but managed to serve six months in a boot camp.

50 first started rapping in around 1996 in a friend's basement where he used turntables to record over instruments. It was that same year that a friend introduced him to Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC who was setting up his own label.

Jay taught him how to count bars, write choruses, structure songs, and how to make a record. Curtis credits Jam Master Jay for helping improve his ability to write hooks.

Jam Master Jay worked with 50 to produce his first album however it was never released.

Jackson's popularity started to rise with his underground single "How To Rob" which he claims he wrote in half an hour in a car on the way to the studio. The song was very controversial and it explains how he would rob famous artists.

On May 24, 2000 he got shot nine times outside his grandmother house in South Jamaica, Queens. He was in the hospital for thirteen days and managed to fully recover in five months.

While he was in hospital he managed to sign a deal with Columbia Records but due to his song "Ghetto Qu'ran" he was dropped and blacklisted in the recording industry.

Because of this he travelled to Canada and in Canada he recorded over thirty songs for mixtapes, which he did for the purpose of building a reputation.

It was in 2002 that Eminem listened to a copy of 50's Guess Who's Back CD. Which was given to him by Jackson's attorney who was working with Eminem's manager Paul Rosenberg at the time.

Eminem was impressed with it so he invited Curtis to fly over to Los Angeles, which he did and he was introduced to Dr Dre. He then signed a $1 million record deal and the rest as they say is history.

When I'm Gone/ Eminem Song Review

I discovered Eminem's most recent song thanks to a fellow fan from my French Eminem forum. In fact, this is a radio edit of Marshall's exclusive song.

You all know how much I am into Eminem and I'd like to share my feelings and impressions with my readers straight away.

While listening to the lyrics of the song, sadness overwhelmed my soul and I kept asking myself: « What is wrong with you, Marshall Mathers? Is it so hard for you to say good bye to your fans or is there something else you want to tell us all? »

The song is gently introduced by light bell sounds and followed by numerous violins which make the listener feel how much the pain is deep and how much Marshall speaks from his heart.

Marshall's mind is troubled right now and his most recent song made me feel sad and uncomfortable. Yes, he let his emotions out of his chest. Moreover, he made his public feel there was something wrong with him.

For the first time, Eminem has a broken voice on a track which reflects his broken heart. What is happening to Marshall right now? I think I have an answer for my readers.

Marshall feels like it is time the curtain of his public show closed for good. Not that he doesn't love his fans, but Marshall re-questions his choices and priorities.

Eminem recalls all the good times and the drama that happened in his love life.

As the good family man he is, Marshall is very conscious that he sometimes makes his daughter suffer through his absence. His lack of time and Kim's whereabouts sometimes make Hailie's life a real nightmare. When the little girl is looking for her parents, she is unable to find any of them. People who have followed Kim's story know that she went AWOL, spent some time in rehab and in jail because of her cocaine addiction problems. Hailie was left with no answer during her absence. Her loving dad, her emotional support was always on the move, whether he was touring or promoting his album.

The refrain is like tears falling from Eminem's heart. Marshall is conscious of his daughter's pain and it literally breaks his heart:

« ...And when I'm gone, just carry on... don't mourn.
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice,
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling,
And I ain't gon' feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain.
Just smile back...
»

His fans ought to know that deep inside of him, Marshall lives a real drama. He is heartbroken, inconsolable, helpless.

His daughter, the sunlight in his life, doesn't want him to go on touring. Eminem's insecurities and feelings of guiltiness follow him into his dreams and turn into a nightmare:

« I keep having this dream, I'm pushing Hailie on the swings
She keeps screaming, she don't want me to sing.
You're making mommy cry. Why ? Why is mommy crying,
Baby, daddy ain't leaving no more - daddy you're lying.
You always say that, You always say this is the last time,
But you ain't leaving no more, Daddy you are mine.
She's piling boxes in front of the door trying to block it
Daddy please, daddy don't leave, daddy, no stop it. »

Back to reality, the inside drama goes on. Hailie pulls a little picture for her dad out of her pocket. While being on stage, the pain increases with intensity. Marshall can hear the voice of his conscience telling him:

"You have got one more chance to do right, and it's tonight
Now go out there and show that you love them before it's too late."
And just as I go to walk out my bedroom door
It's turns to a stage, they're gone and this spotlight is on
And I'm singing... »

On stage, the crowd acclaims Marshall in a very loud scream.

While the fans are throwing roses at his feet, Marshall can hear the voice of his daughter telling him:

"Daddy it's me, help mommy her wrists are bleeding!"
But baby we're in Sweden, how did you get to Sweden ?
I followed you daddy, you told me that you weren't leaving.
You lied to me dad, and now you make mommy sad
And I bought you this coin, it says "Number One Dad".

Eminem makes some reference to the drama that happened in 2001. Kim made a suicide attempt, trying to slit her wrists. Maybe the fear of another drama is still present. The past backfires hard into Marshall's head and pumps loud like heartbeats.

Hailie's voice is there, once again, in form of reproaches:

- It's too late dad, you made the choice
Now go up there and show them that you love them more than us.
That's what they want, they want you Marshall, they keep screaming your name
It's no wonder you can't go to sleep... Just take another pill...
Yea, I bet you you will. You rap about it... Yea, Word, Keep it real. »

Hailie feels like his dad loves his fans more than his own family. Marshall feels like his mind is split between his love for his family, his passion for the music and the feeling of owing his shows to his fans. He also makes some clear references to his sleep medication addiction.

Eminem is a brilliant performer who is loved for what he does. I will never forget when I first saw him on stage in 2003 at the Paris Bercy show and I'd like him to know that this unforgettable event is one of the most beautiful moments he offered me through his music and great performance. I will keep the magic of his show in my heart as long as I live.

I am asking myself if Eminem is feeling guilty of being absent so often or if he also puts a burden of guilt on his fans shoulders. Eminem ought to know that true fans will always be very understanding towards his situation and the way he feels.

It seems very clear that Eminem's heart is bleeding right now. The fans need to understand that Marshall is tired, that he has some issues to solve and that he really needs to take a break.

Marshall has visions of nightmares into his mind while the curtain closes and he says goodbye to the crowd:

« I hear applause, all this time I couldn't see
How could it be, That the curtain is closing on me.
I turn around, find a gun on the ground
Put it to my brain and scream "Die Shady!" and PUMP IT.
[...]My life flashes, the plane what I was supposed to be on crashes and burns to ashes... »

He suddenly wakes up from his horrible nightmare when he's back home:

« That's when I wake up, A long hot spring and there's birds singing
It's brilliant, Hailie's outside swinging, I walk up to Kim and kiss her.
Tell her I miss her, Hailie just smiles and winks at her little sister.
Almost as if to say... »

Marshall, you filled my eyes with tears with your brand new song. I feel that too many problems are unsolved and do hurt inside of your family. Take the time needed to heal your heart. We love to see you performing, but your loyal fans don't want you to pay the highest price just to please our eyes and ears.

Eminem is telling us that he is not only physically exhausted, but also mentally. Let him close the curtain if he feels it is time to do so. A little girl has been deprived of her father for numerous years. Life is precious and Marshall needs to spend some time with his beloved ones.

Touching but very sad song that allowed us to penetrate into Marshall's bleeding heart and gave us some insight about how he really feels right now.

Eminem Mixtapes - The Early Years

These days, it is not necessary to be familiar with a lot of rap mixtapes in order to be familiar with the artist Eminem. Eminem mixtapes helped him establish his career from the beginning, and he is now one of the biggest names in the hip hop world. His clever lyrics and catchy beats have made him a household name and a crossover sensation.

One of the things that have made Eminem mixtapes so popular is that they include many very personal stories about his life. He was raised in poverty with his single mother because his father abandoned the family when Eminem was only eighteen months old. Many of his songs talk about the struggles of growing up poor and without a father.

Although many fans would not hear about him for many years, Eminem actually released his first single in 1995. He was, at that time, part of a group known as Bassmint Productions. They released the album Steppin' Onto The Scene and it did, in fact, help the young artist make his first impression on the competitive hip hop scene.

Eminem Toy Soldiers Review

For Eminem Toy Soldiers is a reflection on the rap beefs that pop up in the industry, and how some of these beefs have crossed the line from freestyle battle into street violence. There are numerous examples of MC's who have met their end violently: Notorious BIG, Tupac Shakur, Proof, Jam Master Jay, etc. The purpose of Toy Soldiers is to recognize the stupidity behind most of the escalations (in that no one ever attempts to be the bigger man) and hopefully call for a truce. In reference to Ja Rule's remarks about his daughter, Eminem fires back:

"There used to be a time when you could just say a rhyme

And wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin'

But now it's elevated cause once you put someone's kids in it

The **** gets escalated, it ain't just words no more is it?"

It's this escalation that is causing the toy soldiers to fall apart, all due to a fundamental lack of respect.

Rap beefs are a double edged sword. As is the case between Ja Rule and 50 Cent, you can see the escalation heading towards violence. Yet rappers, perhaps most, actually endorse these beefs as a way to earn credibility and drum up interest. Let's not forget that 50 got noticed because of his punchlines about various rappers, most notably Jay Z, who came back with the classic line "I'm worth 'bout a dollar, who the **** is 50 Cent?"

Jay Z is certainly no stranger to rap beefs, either. He purposely went after Nas to build momentum for his new album (and while most people give the nod to Nas, it certainly helped both their sales).

For Eminem Toy Soldiers also describes the people who are willing to lay down their lives for guys like him. He compares himself to a general, and the soldiers on the front lines are out there every day showing support in hopes of getting mentioned in a rap.  According to Eminem Toy Soldiers are their for support and nothing else:

We still have soldiers that's on the front line

That's willing to die for us as soon as we give the orders

Never to extort us, strictly to show they support us

We'll maybe shout 'em out in a rap or up in a chorus

Eminem Toy Soldiers are there to show support, but in this day and age, that support can come out in extreme, unexpected ways. Toy Soldiers is an attempt this difficult issue in the way is was always meant to be: through music.

Eminem - The Artist of the Decade

Success did not come easily to Eminem. He was first signed by a record company as early as 1992, but his debut album was released only in 1996. That album, called Infinite, sold less than 1000 copies, and many noted that the album borrowed too heavily from other rappers. But with his first hit album, The Slim Shady LP breaking all records, as they say, Eminem was an artist that was different from the one who released his first album. That album was released in February 1999, and over the next 10 decades of the succeeding decade, Eminem has proved himself to be the artist of the decade.

Eminem, named Marshall Mathers after birth, was raised by his single mom in poverty as they lived in different cities of Kansas before they settled in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan when he was 12. He became interested in rap and by the time he was 14, he was already performing amateur raps under the pseudonym M&M - which stood for Marshall Mathers. He later changed his stage name to Eminem - going by the pronunciation of M&M. Here we see Marshall Mathers becoming Eminem in name - as an artist, it would take him many more years.

By the end of the 90', Eminem was ready to hit the charts, and he did that by his first best-selling album The Slim Shady LP, released in year 1999.After that, Eminem has not looked back, though he did take a break from 2005 to 2009. In 2009, he came back with Relapse.

Eminem: Life Lessons for Entrepreneurs

Eminem. Slim Shady. Marshall Mathers III. Love him or hate him, no one can deny that he leaves an indelible impression, nor can one argue his staying power.

Sure, he is not the only kid to come from a poor and broken home, or to have changed school every few months, or to have flunked the 9th grade three times. There are plenty like him who don't make it; but, make no mistake, Eminem has earned everything he has, fair and square, and there are inspiring life lessons to be learned here, for every entrepreneur pursuing a dream.

When the Going Gets Tough, Eminem gets Going (and then some):

Eminem is a fighter. He has overcome struggles, both physically and mentally, when most would have collapsed from overwhelming exhaustion. He's taken on challenges hardly suitable for the faint hearted (battling the Goliath of hip-hop as a young, white male). He had little emotional support from his family (his father left him when he was 18 months old and was raised by his mother on welfare); the one positive influence in his early life,

 his uncle Ronnie, committed suicide in 1991. A few years before that, Eminem himself almost died after being beaten up by a bully in middle school, leaving him in a coma for ten days. Barely in his early 20s, Eminem has a daughter. To top it off, rap labels continue to reject him because of the color of his skin, 

regardless of his rap skills. The odds were stacked against him before he was even out of the gate. Juggling the responsibility of a father with a less than stable career choice, e.g. aspiring white rapper, is enough for any sane person to go crazy.

The fight, for Eminem, never really stops. Despite his stardom, he still struggles with internal and external demons. In 2006, his best friend Proof was killed. There was concern that the tough Eminem had finally reached his breaking point. He almost nearly did. Amidst deep depression, his best friend's death, and an elaborate cocktail of prescription pills, he collapsed from an overdose in 2007; he was later told that had he been found just two hours later, it would have been too late.

Eminem doesn't pretend to be Superman nor act as if it's been a smooth ride, and in that humble honesty, is yet another layer of his unique toughness. He has an uncanny ability to lift himself out of some of the most traumatic circumstances, even when his own inner voice is driving him to further self-destruction. This isn't trite, this takes serious guts. It's this "signature" Eminem drive that every Entrepreneur should heed.

He has always genuinely believed that "you can do anything you set your mind to.' If his life story isn't an endorsement of this in itself, I don't know what is.

Hard Work Does Pay Off:

14 years of hard work, to be exact, before he gets his first real break, signing with Interscope Records. Eminem discovered rap at the age of 11. At 14, he was performing amateur raps with a group called Bassmint Productions. He wrote rhymes every single day, read the dictionary (he had a deep affinity for language and this was his toolkit for the countless hip hop battles he took part in - look up some vintage video of Eminem vs MC Juice). He immersed himself in everything hip-hop: from studying the classics like LL, Dre and NWA, attending and competing in rap "battles," testing out flows and sounds until he found his own voice. He worked multiple minimum wage jobs to make ends meet, proceeds of which went into caring for his family and his dream. In 1996, he released his debut album Infinite, which only sold a handful of copies.

 No career break in sight, mounting drug abuse and relationship woes lead him to attempted suicide. But, again, that inner voice somehow kicked in at the eleventh hour. The next year he released Slim Shady EP, which would sell even fewer copies thanInfinite. Yet, another blow to his aspiring career. He just couldn't catch a break. But, he kept at it. He didn't settle.

Then, in 1997, his hard work paid off in a rather bizarre twist of fate: After a heart-wrenching defeat at the Rap Olympics (he came in in second place, again, to MC Juice), he left the premises in utter disgust, but not without first "throwing" a copy of his EP at a young kid who, unbeknownst to him, worked for Interscope Records. That day would change the rest of his life. 14 years of hard work had finally paid off.

Embrace Authenticity:

Eminem has a unique brand signature. His real-life, drama-stricken upbringing is the secret sauce he mixes into each of his songs, creating the ultimate loyalty card between him and his audience. Eminem's bouts of drug abuse, depression and suicidal tendencies remind us he's not a robot. He's human just like us, creating an uncannily relatable persona. He channeled his anger into a "unique value proposition." He keeps it fresh and outsmarts his competitors by remaining engaged with trends, new acts, and his fans

How are Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Andy Grove, and so many other inspiring entrepreneurs any different in their resolve? Life is not easy, and it shouldn't be sugar coated with gold stars. There are bullies, haters, manipulators and liars everywhere you turn. It's OK to get down, want to give up, and question it all. We should embrace these moments as a necessary and important rite of passage.

 The lesson here is that there is a way out to the other side, and it can yield amazing results, let alone build character. Everyone, kids and adults, need to be reminded of this. As you get older, kindergarten just turns into a bigger playground involving higher stakes: think lawsuits (a fight Eminem is not immune to), office politics, defamation, etc.

As an entrepreneur, you will hear plenty of naysayers telling you that you won't succeed, your product has no market, and you're wasting your time; it's just a matter of time before Google or Microsoft crush you; besides, who are you to push the boundaries of the establishment, which of course to most, is never a good thing.

If all of it becomes overwhelming, take a break and find a YouTube video on Em or read his lyrics. I guarantee you that it will jolt you back in the right direction. You'll again find that inner fighter.

You have a world to change. You don't know what work/life balance means. Just like Eminem, you practice your craft every day, relentlessly, and with discipline; you are not easily swayed by those around you and are driven by proving everyone wrong. Yes, indeed, this is the stuff of which inspiring leaders and legacies are born.

The Rhyming in Eminem Lyrics

Rhyme is what you have when two words sound like each other, especially how they end. "jot them" rhymes with "got them". "Fan" rhymes with Stan". This is how Eminem's single "Stan" goes:

I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not-a got 'em

There probably was a problem at the post office or something

Sometimes I scribble addresses too sloppy when I jot 'em

Here Eminem gets the verse to rhyme by using these two words the way he does, ending the lines on a rhyming note.

"Before" rhymes with "door", and Eminem uses it here, in The Real Slim Shady:

Y'all act like you never seen a white person before

Jaws all on the floor like Pam, like Tommy just burst in the door

This type of rhyme is when you pronounce or use words such that they sound rhyming even though they naturally might not. Autumn and "got them" are not rhyming words if you are a posh English speaker, but when Eminem pronounces them, they are. Like in the same verse:

I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not-a got 'em

Another example is this single line:

I sit back with this pack of zig zags

Where he rhymes back" and "pack" with "zig zags". This type of rhyming is also called internal rhyming, where there are rhyming words in a single line.

Simple enough, right?

Sure, much of the rhymes used by Eminem are simple. But do not look at just the examples of rhymes one by one - Eminem's lyrics are famous for having much more rhyming words than most other artists. A single song will have internal rhymes, and other types of rhymes, which will create the popular Eminem songs that have the Eminem trademark. Or dare I say self-made-art?!
